Press Release: Logos Institute Press to Publish the Second Edition of “The Power of Communication”
On November 10, 2026, the Logos Institute for Crisis Management and Executive Leadership Press will publish its latest title, the second edition of The Power of Communication: Skills to Build Trust, Inspire Loyalty, and Lead Effectively jointly authored by Logos president Helio Fred Garcia and executive vice president Katie Garcia.

“Communication has always been essential requirement for leadership. However, in today’s environment, leaders are faced with higher expectations to engage effectively with stakeholders to move their organizations forward,” Katie explains. “The Power of Communication is designed to help leaders and those aspiring to leadership become more effective communicators. It seeks to help those who engage audiences for a living – whether in positions of leadership or in communication support functions – and to do so at a high level of craft.”
The Power of Communication is about how leaders can inspire, persuade, and earn the confidence of stakeholders. While the book is written primarily for civilian business leaders, it adapts the leadership principles of U.S. Marine Corps Doctrinal Publication No. 1, Warfighting, as a conceptual framework to help leaders become habitually strategic.
The first edition of The Power of Communication by Helio Fred Garcia was published in 2012 by Pearson. The book was very well received across both civilian and military sectors. For many years it was listed on the Professional Reading List of the Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps. It was assigned in graduate business schools across the United States and around the world, as well as in schools of the U.S. armed forces. It was also published in Chinese in China.
“The success of the first edition validated the premise that a rigorous strategic focus helps leaders use communication as a means of attaining competitive advantage for their organizations,” said Fred.
The second edition of The Power of Communication substantively updates the original book, reflecting not only what resonated most from the first edition but also what matters today given the changing environment in which leaders need to operate. Fred invited Katie to co-author this second edition of the book based on their collective insights of teaching the principles of the first edition over the past 14 years.
“Katie has been an essential part of all of my prior books, mostly in the background,” shares Fred. “But for this second edition of The Power of Communication, she is a primary author who brings her own perspectives and expertise to bear. It is a much better book than it would have been with only me as the author.”
The second edition of The Power of Communication is organized around nine newly articulated principles of effective leadership communication. The book features a number of case studies to illuminate how these principles play out in real life. The book also shares mindsets, techniques, tools, and best practices that can be used in everyday work life.
Initial reaction to the second edition has been quite positive. Examples:
Carmella Glover, President and CEO of Diversity Action Alliance: “Intellectually rigorous and impossible to put down, this book sharpens your judgment and reignites your conviction to lead effectively regardless of career stage. Through compelling firsthand case studies, decades of experience, thorough research, and original, unexpected human insights, Fred and Katie demonstrate how communication is a powerful, indispensable leadership discipline. I often returned to the first edition at pivotal career moments; in an impressive proof of concept, this second edition inspires immediate action and continuous improvement. Read it with a pen in hand, because it will sharpen your leadership decisions in real time, long before the final page.”
Christophe Ginisty, Senior Strategic Advisor at Folgate and former International Public Relations Association President: “Rare is the communication book that survives contact with reality. This one does. The Power of Communication turns hard-won doctrine and decades of coaching into tools professionals can apply on Monday morning. Its chapter on why facts alone don’t persuade should be required reading for every executive who still believes the data speaks for itself. Frame first, then argue: it is that simple, and that is rarely done. Read it, then use it. Your teams and your stakeholders will notice.
Kathleen D. Rennie, PhD, Chair and Assistant Professor, Department of Integrated Marketing and Communications at New York University, School of Professional Studies: "Developed in part through decades of teaching strategy in NYU’s graduate communication programs, The Power of Communication provides an exceptional, academically grounded, and practical framework for students and practitioners alike. It directly addresses a critical gap in professional education by moving communicators past tactical execution to become habitually strategic advisors. In doing so, Katie and Fred Garcia elevate Public Relations from a tactical support function to an indispensable leadership and management discipline, equipping leaders with the mental models, ethical grounding, and analytical rigor needed to advise senior executives and deliver measurable organizational results."
Steven Guanpeng Dong, PhD, Vice Chairman of the China Public Relations Association and Chair Professor and Dean of the National Institute of Public Relations and Strategic Communication, Communication University of China; former Shorenstein Fellow on Media, Politics, and Public Policy, Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University: “At a time when mutual trust is the world’s scarcest commodity — and strategic communication scarcer still — we need this book more than ever. The Power of Communication deserves its second edition, and deserves readers far beyond the classroom and the boardroom. Everyone should read it. It combines macro-level analysis of the great currents of our time, meso-level distillation of enduring principles, and micro-level techniques that show how to act. From a Chinese perspective, this is what a masterwork should offer: the finest integration of context, principle and craft. Fred and Katie Garcia move communication from tactical execution to strategic counsel, and from publicity to leadership. I look forward to sharing it with more Chinese colleagues — including those who have never regarded communication as essential — because communication is now reshaping individual lives and determining entrepreneurial success. Read it not as a manual of techniques, but as a guide to judgment, credibility and responsibility.”
David Murray, Founder and Executive Director of the Professional Speechwriters Association: “Just when public relations and communications seems to have forgotten its intellectual foundations and forsaken its moral purpose, this book brings all of that to bear, all at once, to solve the problems and seize the opportunities of our moment. No one on this earth understands and teaches communication principles and strategy like Helio Fred Garcia – with the singular and miraculous exception of his own brilliant daughter Katie. Their new book is a deep, comprehensive and unforgettable education in using communication to advance the institution you serve, and the society that relies on it.”
James E. Lukaszewski, America’s Crisis Guru®: “Fred and Katie are a magnetic communication and leadership shaping team. Together they bring critically important communication and leadership topics from new and ever deeper perspectives. The book is story after story, insight after insight, lesson after lesson, inspiration after inspiration. Like the first edition, their ability to put the reader into the extraordinary circumstances they’re describing is a powerful approach. Start reading.”
The second edition of The Power of Communication is fifth book published by the Logos Institute for Crisis Management and Executive Leadership Press and the fourth volume in the Logos Best Practice Series. The Logos Institute Best Practices Series showcases conceptual frameworks that help clarify complex issues, combined with insightful case studies, examples, and actionable tools, tips, and techniques that help leaders make smart choices and build competitive advantage.
The Power of Communication will be available in hardcover, paperback, and Kindle editions on Amazon.com on November 10.
