New York, NY (Dec. 6, 2012) – Late last month, The Power of Communication: Skills to Build Trust, Inspire Loyalty, and Lead Effectively by Helio Fred Garcia was named to the US Marine Corps Commandant’s Professional Reading List.

The Power of Communication is about how leaders can inspire, persuade, earn the confidence of stakeholders through verbal engagement, and how they can build trust, inspire loyalty, and lead effectively.

“I have had the honor of teaching Marines and of getting to know them for more than 20 years. In that time, I’ve been impressed with their commitment to training, teaching, and learning.” Garcia said, “It’s an added honor, privilege, and delight for me to know that I can continue to influence Marines and their way of thinking at a distance.”

The Commandant’s Professional Reading List was launched in 1989 by then-Commandant Gen. Alfred Gray. The current list is organized by rank and level (recruit through general officer), and also by category (Strategic Thinking, Leadership, Regional and Cultural Studies).

The Commandant’s Professional Reading List consists of more than 150 books divided into 19 groups; ten of the groups are rank-specific, nine are in categories such as Leadership, Strategic Thinking, Counterinsurgency, and Aviation. The Power of Communication is one of eight books in the Leadership category.

New York, NY (June 13, 2012) – Matthew Morine, Pulpit Minister of the Castle Rock Church of Christ in Castle Rock, Colorado, reviewed today The Power of Communication: Skills to Build Trust, Inspire Loyalty, and Lead Effectively on his blog, Musings on Spiritual Matters.

The Power of Communication is about how leaders can inspire, persuade, earn the confidence of stakeholders through verbal engagement, and how they can build trust, inspire loyalty, and lead effectively.

“I was not too excited about reading this book. Sometimes books from a business culture do not translate well to the church culture. But this book was excellent. And it was deep,” Morine writes, “This book has a ton of awesome lessons for a leader in regards to communication. “

“As a minister, this is helpful stuff as you are often a mouthpiece for the church.  It provides more than some lessons on what to do in speaking, but more on how to use speaking to lead an organization,” Morine continued, “The book trains you well. Awesome book on communication.”

New York, NY (June 3, 2012) –  Amazon Vine Hall-of-Fame Reviewer Harold McFarland called The Power of Communication: Skills to Build Trust, Inspire Loyalty, and Lead Effectively “One of the best [books] on the subject of business communications” and awarded the book another five-star review.

The Power of Communication is about how leaders can inspire, persuade, earn the confidence of stakeholders through verbal engagement, and how they can build trust, inspire loyalty, and lead effectively.

“This is one of the best books I have read on the subject of business communication. The principles can be used in a non-business setting, but it is predominantly written for business and public relations,” said McFarland.

“He examines communication in the context of war. This appeared at first to be an illogical pairing but actually worked brilliantly,”noted McFarland. “Communication can be viewed as a war; not to win territory or natural resources, but to win the heart and mind by learning how to cast the correct spin on something bad to make it more palatable but takes the high road of accepting responsibility and moving the company forward.”

“This review means a lot to me, and to other people who have contributed to the book,” author Helio Fred Garcia noted, “Thank you, Harold, for your recognition. I am thrilled this book proved valuable to you.”

The Power of Communication is about how leaders can inspire, persuade, earn the confidence of stakeholders through verbal engagement, and how they can build trust, inspire loyalty, and lead effectively.

“As example situations described in this book clearly illustrate, good communication WORKS. Poor communication does not work well AT ALL,” said Davis. “This book is very thorough about what is a truly complex topic—and a complex situation whenever you are in it. We are all in it sometimes, but there are people who are truly on the hot seat, and they would do very well to read this book, study it, and refer to it often… I HIGHLY recommend this book. We probably all need it!”

New York, NY (May 31, 2012) – Amazon Vine reviewer Lee Witt gave The Power of Communication: Skills to Build Trust, Inspire Loyalty, and Lead Effectively a five-star review and called it “a must read for communication pros.”

Among the review’s highlights are: “Whether you’re a communication professional, a crisis management (damage control) officer, or simply a leader looking to improve communication skills, this book is a must read. Seriously, every page has something of value to offer. I always highlight key points in the books that I read and I think I got carpal tunnel syndrome from all of the highlighting I did.”

Witt contined, “Using the Marine Corps’ manual, Warfighting, Garcia was able to provide pertinent metaphors that outlined how intertwined communication, strategy, business, and leadership actually are.”

“This book is an embarrassment of riches. It is a complete college course put together in a very readable and entertaining fashion,” Witt concluded. “I’m sure I’ll go back to it again and again to keep myself on target and to continue to grow as a communicator and lead. Well done!”

New York, NY (May 30, 2012) – Amazon Vine top-500 reviewer K. Salinger gave The Power of Communication: Skills to Build Trust, Inspire Loyalty, and Lead Effectively a five-star rating.

The Power of Communication is about how leaders can inspire, persuade, earn the confidence of stakeholders through verbal engagement, and how they can build trust, inspire loyalty, and lead effectively.

“The author writes well and makes what could be complicated ideas very easy to understand (to the point that a reader might think “well DUH!”, yet they may not have thought of it left to their own devices…),” said Salinger. “The author is also great at describing the “why” of it—so that you truly understand, and with understanding you begin to realize the importance of seemingly simple things. He uses relevant, current examples to illustrate his points.”

“Overall this is an amazingly useful book for anyone at any level of leadership or management (and those who aspire to be leaders),” Salinger continued, “[it] can give just about anyone a strong, solid foundation for true leadership—not the kind of leadership that’s based on your title or position, but the type that comes from being the kind of person that people naturally admire and want to follow.”

New York, NY (May 29, 2012) – Amazon Vine reviewer Sharon Beverly gave The Power of Communication: Skills to Build Trust, Inspire Loyalty, and Lead Effectively five stars.

The Power of Communication is about how leaders can inspire, persuade, earn the confidence of stakeholders through verbal engagement, and how they can build trust, inspire loyalty, and lead effectively.

“The Power of Communication by Helio Fred Garcia is very well-written, timely in its use of historical examples, and looks at the art of communication from a unique perspective,” said Beverly, “As one would expect of a book that is about communication, the message is delivered to the reader very effectively.”

“This book is an easy read—a testament to the author’s assertion to speak to one’s audience. It is intended for managers and executives; people who generally do not have a lot of leisure reading time,” Beverly noted. “The book also covers a wide range of communication topics: audience engagement; word choice; speed; and many more, with the Marine manual, Warfighting, as its focusing lens. This wide variety of topics allows the reader to implement the lessons imparted by the book regardless of whether one is writing an email or preparing a speech in front of a live audience.”

Beverly concluded, “I was also pleased to see examples drawn from various fields: politics; business; government administration; etc. This shows the reader that, no matter what industry or business you work in, there is valuable information within this book for you.”
